Meeus wins sprint, Vauquelin retains lead

Harry Sweeny, Mauro Schmid, and Stefan Küng, three dedicated rouleurs, spent the whole day at the front, working together seamlessly.

However, their efforts were ultimately not enough to fend off the chasing pack. Jordi Meeus surged to victory in the sprint, while Kévin Vauquelin kept the yellow jersey.

The day’s breakaway consisted of Sweeny, Schmid, Küng, and former yellow jersey Romain Grégoire, who initially built a 3-minute lead.

On the Hemberg climb, Ewen Costiou, Pello Bilbao, and Matej Mohoric launched the chase.

They managed to reduce the gap to about a minute and a half on the descent but couldn’t catch the breakaway.

With 45 km left, Grégoire had to drop from the front group, which was then 1.5 minutes behind the peloton.

Despite Sweeny, Schmid, and Küng working together to keep the peloton at bay, they were caught just before the flamme rouge.

Danny van Poppel then executed a perfect lead-out, helping Jordi Meeus win. Kévin Vauquelin finished safely with the peloton to maintain his overall lead.
