Stage 1 of the 2025 Tour de Romandie is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

Brennan Wins Stage 1
Matthew Brennan powered to a clear victory on stage 1 of the Tour de Romandie. As a bonus, the 19-year-old Briton took over the leader’s jersey from Samuel Watson.
Gerben Kuypers, Silvan Dillier, and Ben Zwiehoff initiated the breakaway, and as Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier and Enzo Palini joined the group, they opened up a gap of over 4 minutes.
On the Pol des Pontins, the gap dropped below 3 minutes, and the breakaway started to splinter. Zwiehoff crested the climb solo, but Kuypers regained contact on the descent. On the next climb, the Belgian was distanced once again, only to make it back after the summit.
The two were reeled in with 24 kilometres remaining.
In the ensuing sprint, Matthew Brennan powered to an emphatic victory. He launched his effort from the front and left the field trailing by several bike lengths. As a bonus, the young Brit took over the leader’s jersey from Samuel Watson.
