2025 Tour de France Stage 8 Live Coverage
Welcome to our live coverage of Stage 8 of the 2025 Tour de France! Our live profile and commentary are below, followed by a preview of the technical aspects of the route.
Course Preview
The 8th stage of the Tour de France routes riders from Saint-Méen-le-Grand to Laval over a 174-kilometre path that is mostly flat.
Although the path lacks significant climbs, the total elevation gain is still about 1,400 metres. So, while not perfectly flat, it is relatively so for professional riders. This indicates that a bunch sprint is anticipated in the streets of Laval.
Laval proudly hosts the birthplace of Jacky Durand, a three-time stage winner of the Tour de France. It has been four years since La Grande Boucle last graced the town. During that visit, Tadej Pogacar triumphed in an individual time trial, while yellow jersey leader Mathieu van der Poel successfully maintained his overall lead.
The starting location, Saint-Méen-le-Grand, has welcomed the Tour just once before—in 2006, when it served as the starting point for a stage. The race then proceeded to Laurent, marking a significant victory for Frenchman Sylvain Calzati, who claimed the only major win of his career.
