2025 Tour de France Stage 5 Live Coverage
Welcome to our live coverage of Stage 5 of the 2025 Tour de France! Our live time-trial times and commentary are below, followed by a preview of the technical aspects of the route.
Course Preview
The 5th stage of the Tour de France features an individual time trial located in and around Caen. This 33-kilometer chrono race will likely benefit the pure specialists due to its straightforward route.
Caen is gearing up to celebrate its 1000th anniversary in 2025, making it a fitting location for the Tour to host a time trial. The city is often referred to as ‘The City of a Hundred Bells.’
In the 1950s and 60s, the Tour made regular stops in Caen, but it has been 25 years since its last visit. In 2000, Oscar Freire emerged victorious by outpacing the yellow jersey holder Tom Boonen in a sprint.
This time trial is clearly tailored for specialists. The majority of the course consists of wide, flat roads, and the overall elevation gain is limited to 200 metres.
