Race Recap
Merlier Takes Victory in Dunkirk
Jonas Rickaert and Matej Mohoric started the stage slightly ahead of the peloton but soon slowed down, waiting to be caught. Rickaert repeated the move with Maximilian Schachmann, and that marked the end of significant action.
In the second half of the race, the pace increased but no breakaway materialized. The race remained calm until Jasper Philipsen, wearing the green jersey, crashed hard at the intermediate sprint, ending his Tour prospects.
Before the day’s only climb, Tim Wellens launched an attack from the peloton. No one reacted, allowing him to gain the polka-dot jersey and nearly a 2-minute lead. As the gap was effectively given to him, he chose not to press further, sitting up to wait for the peloton after earning 1 KOM point.
Jordi Meeus saw his chances of victory disappear in a crash as they entered Dunkirk. The sprint was marred by another crash, and finally, Tim Merlier and Jonathan Milan sprinted shoulder to shoulder to the line, with Merlier narrowly winning in a tense finish.
