Van der Poel Dominates in Boulogne-sur-Mer

In an intense finish, Mathieu van der Poel raced to victory in Boulogne-sur-Mer. He outsped Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard, taking the yellow jersey from his teammate Jasper Philipsen.

Conditions were wet at the start, but Yevgeniy Fedorov, Bruno Armirail, Andrea Leknessund, and Brent Van Moer couldn’t have cared less. The four opened up a three-minute gap.

Shortly after the intermediate sprint, the breakaway was caught with just over 50 kilometers remaining.

On the Côte de Saint-Étienne-au-Mont, van der Poel stayed in a select group, while his teammate Jasper Philipsen had been dropped. Tadej Pogacar was the first to crest the climb.

Just before the top of the Côte de Saint-Étienne-au-Mont, Jonas Vingegaard launched a surge. Kévin Vauquelin responded with Matteo Jorgenson on his wheel, but over the final three kilometers, the peloton caught back up. Led by Florian Lipowitz, about thirty riders entered the climb toward the finish.

Julian Alaphilippe briefly took the lead, only for van der Poel to move to the front. He kept a fierce pace and sprinted in the last few hundred meters. Holding off the charging Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard, the Dutchman won the race and took the yellow jersey.\n
