Course Preview

In the 19th stage of the Tour de France, the route showcases the last major mountains. Spanning 93.1 kilometres from Albertville to La Plagne, riders will face five cols, culminating in the final climb to the ski resort La Plagne.

Previously, Albertville has been the starting point for a Tour de France stage on eight occasions. Additionally, the town is recognized for hosting the 1992 Winter Olympics, a remarkable achievement given its population is under 20,000.

Beginning with a gentle incline, the route rises, and 10 kilometres in, riders encounter the Côte d’Héry-sur-Ugine, a challenging 11.3-kilometre stretch with an average gradient of 5.1%.

A proper descent then leads riders to Beaufort, located at the base of the Col du Pré. This climb measures 12.6 kilometres long, averaging 7.7%. The second half is notably steep, with the final kilometre reaching a gradient of 12%. After a minor descent, the route ascends again on the Cormet de Roselend, a 5.9-kilometre climb featuring an average gradient of 6.3%.

Having completed three of the four climbs, riders still have over 50 kilometres to race above the Cormet de Roselend.

A lengthy descent then brings them to Aime-la-Plagne, where the final climb begins. The ascent to La Plagne spans 19.1 kilometres, with an average gradient of 7.2%. Although the climb is generally gradual, there are three challenging kilometres with gradients exceeding 9%.

This leg to La Plagne is crucial, as the following two stages will offer few opportunities to gain substantial time.
