Wellens Soloes to Victory

Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates XRG) claimed a commanding solo victory on Stage 15 of the Tour de France, attacking from the breakaway and holding off the chasers to win by a margin of 1 minute and 28 seconds.

The Belgian rider launched his decisive move in the final kilometers of the hilly stage, capitalizing on his explosive climbing and descending skills to distance a large breakaway group. His effort earned him both the stage win and a 10-second time bonus.

Victor Campenaerts (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) rode to second place, arriving 1:28 behind Wellens and collecting 6 bonus seconds for his efforts. Julian Alaphilippe (Tudor Pro Cycling Team), continuing his renaissance Tour, sprinted in for third and added 4 bonus seconds to his tally.

The rest of the top ten crossed the line in a tight group, all finishing 1:36 behind the winner. Among them were Wout van Aert (Visma), Axel Laurance (INEOS), Aleksandr Vlasov (Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe), Jasper Stuyven (Lidl-Trek), Jordan Jegat (TotalEnergies), Michael Valgren (EF Education–EasyPost), and Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ).

While the general classification contenders stayed quiet on the day, the breakaway fireworks provided the entertainment ahead of the final rest day.

The Tour continues Tuesday with Stage 16, where the GC battle is expected to reignite.
