Race Recap
Abrahamsen Wins Sprint on Gripping Stage
Jonas Abrahamsen and Mauro Schmid were the initial attackers of the day, and after an exhilarating stage, they competed in the final sprint. Abrahamsen secured the victory, while the fast-charging Mathieu van der Poel finished just a few seconds behind. Ben Healy maintained the yellow jersey.
Jonas Abrahamsen, Mauro Schmid, and Davide Ballerini initiated the attack from the start. They established a maximum lead of one minute; however, the race remained competitive until approximately 70 kilometres remained. Ultimately, only Mathieu Burgaudeau and Fred Wright succeeded in closing the gap.
The tranquility was short-lived. As the lead extended to two minutes, new attacks commenced.
With less than 70 kilometres remaining, yellow jersey wearer Ben Healy and Jonas Vingegaard broke away from the peloton, compelling Tadej Pogačar and Remco Evenepoel to pursue. Once they regained contact, Wout van Aert, Quinn Simmons, Mathieu van der Poel, Arnaud De Lie, and Axel Laurance initiated the next breakaway movement.
Only then did the peloton stabilize. While Van der Poel and others pursued the breakaway, the general classification contenders fell behind by approximately three minutes.
The differential between the breakaway and the chasers remained around twenty seconds as Schmid and Abrahamsen increased their pace on the penultimate ascent. Simultaneously, Quinn Simmons launched an attack from the chasing group.
Schmid and Abrahamsen reached the final summit together. Van der Poel pursued lower down the slope and arrived at the summit twenty-five seconds later.
