Course Preview
The riders will have the chance to gradually return to racing during the 11th stage of the Tour de France. Following the first rest day, the route spans just 154 kilometers and is primarily flat, but the conclusion offers two minor surprises.
While riders are often challenged after a rest day, this time they will enjoy a smooth transition back into competition. The sprinters and their teams are the only ones with major strategies for the race around Toulouse.
However, there’s a catch; the route isn’t entirely level. The Côte de Castelnau-d’Estrétefonds (1.5 kilometers at 6%) poses no real threat as it appears early, but the Côte de Vieille-Toulouse may prove to be a greater test, with its 1.5-kilometer ascent at 6.7% peaking just 14 kilometers from the finish. Following closely is the Montée Pech David, a 900-meter climb at 9.1%.
From there, the riders will race downhill for a flat 7-kilometer stretch leading to the finish line on Boulevard Lascrosses.
The Tour de France last touched down in Toulouse in 2019, when Caleb Ewan narrowly defeated Dylan Groenewegen in a dramatic photo-finish sprint.
