Stage 1 of the 2025 Tour de France is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

Philipsen Claims 10th Tour de France Stage Win
The stage concluded in Lille with a sprint from a reduced group. Jasper Philipsen secured the stage victory and donned the inaugural yellow jersey of the Tour. Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic lost 39 seconds.
The day's breakaway was formed immediately from the outset. Mattéo Vercher, Jonas Rutsch, Mathis Le Berre, Bruno Armirail, and Benjamin Thomas gained a maximum lead of 2 minutes over the peloton.
Following crashes involving Filippo Ganna and Stefan Bissegger, the peloton increased its pace in response to the approaching crosswinds. This effectively ended the breakaway with 105 kilometers remaining.
Jonathan Milan achieved the intermediate sprint, and immediately thereafter, Vercher launched another attack, with Thomas bridging the gap to him. The duo established a 1-minute advantage.
Subsequent to the KOM points sprint in Cassel, Thomas crashed, bringing Vercher down as well. This incident abruptly terminated the second breakaway of the day. Not long thereafter, Ganna withdrew from the race. Bissegger withdrew within the last 50 kilometers.
With 20 kilometers remaining, Visma | Lease a Bike capitalized on the crosswinds, splitting the peloton. Jonathan Milan, Tim Merlier, Remco Evenepoel, Primoz Roglic, and João Almeida found themselves on the wrong side of the split. The leading group, with Alpecin-Deceuninck and Visma | Lease a Bike setting the pace, extended their advantage to 40 seconds.
