Course Preview

The first stage of the 2025 Tour de France features a loop just west of Lille. This 185-kilometre course includes less than 1,000 metres of elevation gain, which is likely to favor sprinters.

After two international Grand Départs in Bilbao and Florence, the Tour returns to France. It marks the first time in five editions where a sprinter is anticipated to be the first to wear the yellow jersey. In 2020, Alexander Kristoff claimed victory in Nice with a sprint at the end of a drenched race.

We hope the Lille-Lille route experiences better weather. Although it is not completely flat, the elevation of 997 metres is not expected to hinder a bunch sprint. Following the starting signal, riders will head southwest to the CĂ´te de Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, a 1.1-kilometre climb with an average gradient of 7.8%. After changing direction and traveling north for nearly 50 kilometres, they will arrive at the CĂ´te de Cassel, a 2.3-kilometre ascent at a gradient of 3.7%. The next 25 kilometres will see them continue eastward, just south of the French-Belgian border. With roughly 45 kilometres remaining, the Mont Noir presents a 1.3-kilometre climb at 5.8%.

That's the extent of the elevation gain; the rest of the route is flat.

The finish line is located on Boulevard Vauban in Lille, and the final kilometre is perfectly straight.

Marcel Kittel was the last rider to win a Tour de France stage in Lille, achieving victory in the 2014 sprint against Alexander Kristoff and Arnaud Démare.
