Ferrand-Prévot Clinches Tour de France Femmes with Final Stage Victory
Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) sealed her overall victory in the Tour de France Femmes in dominant fashion Sunday, powering away in the final kilometers to win the mountainous Stage 8 in Morzine.
Ferrand-Prévot, who wrested the yellow jersey from Kimberley Le Court on the queen stage, made her move with 7 kilometers to go after marking a failed attack from Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez). Once clear, the French star extended her lead and crossed the line with a 35-second margin, punching the air in triumph.
Vollering sprinted in for second, followed by Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon//SRAM) in third. The result locked in the final podium: Ferrand-Prévot in yellow, with Vollering and Niewiadoma completing the top three overall.
Anna van der Breggen (SD Worx-Protime) was awarded the most combative rider of the stage after a bold solo effort earlier in the day, which saw her crest the Col de Joux Plane first and briefly lead the race solo.
Élise Chabbey (FDJ-Suez) secured the mountains classification, becoming the first Swiss rider to win the polka dot jersey at the Tour de France Femmes.
Sarah Gigante (AG Insurance–Soudal) started the day second overall but struggled on the descents and climbs, eventually slipping to fourth in the general classification.
The 105-kilometer stage from Samoëns to Morzine featured nearly 2,400 meters of elevation gain and tackled three classified climbs, including the iconic Joux Plane. The race concluded with a fast and technical descent into the ski resort.
Ferrand-Prévot’s overall victory crowns a sensational week for the French rider, who took two consecutive stage wins in the Alps and wrested control of the race in the final days.
