Squiban Claims Stage 6
Maeva Squiban (UAE Team ADQ) claimed a dramatic solo victory on Stage 6 of the Tour de France Femmes, launching a long-range attack with 32 kilometers to go and holding off the chasing group to cross the line in Ambert alone. It marks a remarkable comeback for the 23-year-old French rider, who was hit by a car while training just two months ago.
Juliette Labous (FDJ-Suez) finished second at +1:09, with race leader Kim Le Court Pienaar (AG Insurance – Soudal Team) placing third on the stage, just ahead of a tightly packed group of GC contenders including Demi Vollering, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and Katarzyna Niewiadoma.
The mountainous 123.7-kilometer route from Clermont-Ferrand to Ambert featured 2,500 meters of climbing, including the Category 1 Col du Béal, the Col du Chansert, and the Côte de Valcivières in the final 44 kilometers. Élise Chabbey (FDJ-Suez) collected key QOM points and remains in the polka-dot jersey.
Despite Squiban’s win, Kim Le Court Pienaar retained the yellow jersey and continues to lead the General Classification by 26 seconds over Ferrand-Prévot, with Niewiadoma, Vollering, and Van der Breggen close behind.
