Course Preview

Covering 124 kilometres, the 6th stage of the Tour de France Femmes travels from Clermont-Ferrand to Ambert. The riders tackle the Col du Béal, Col du Chansert and Côte de Valcivières over the last 44 kilometres before the finale goes downhill.

The total elevation gain for the day adds up to 2,500 metres. Most of the climbing comes in the three main climbs within the final 44 kilometres, while the Côte de Courpeiere (2.4 kilometres at 5.8%) and the Côte d’Augerolles (3-kilometre at 5.1%) will warm up the climbing muscles in the first hour of action.

After descending the Côte d’Augerolles and a stint on the flat, the riders face about 10 kilometres at shallow gradients leading up to the base of the Col du Béal. The Béal is a 10.2-kilometre climb with an average gradient of 5.6%. A short descent then takes the riders onto the 6.3-kilometre at 5.5% of the Col du Chansert.

From the Chansert, the riders descend for 12 kilometres before reaching the Côte de Valcivières. With 4.5 kilometres at 5.3%, it’s the easiest of the three climbs, yet, since it’s the last one, it could pan out to be crucial.

The Valcivières peaks out with 12 kilometres remaining. The road remains at altitude for 5 kilometres, and then the downhill section begins. From there, it’s a dive to the finish on Boulevard Henri IV in Ambert.
