Kim Le Court Pienaar Wins Stage 5, Takes Yellow Jersey in Guéret
Kim Le Court Pienaar (AG Insurance - Soudal Team) claimed a dramatic victory on Stage 5 of the Tour de France Femmes, outsprinting a select lead group to win in Guéret and take over the yellow jersey.
The 165.8-kilometer stage from Chasseneuil-du-Poitou featured a mostly flat first half, followed by a series of categorized climbs and an uphill drag to the finish. After a day animated by multiple breakaways and crashes, it was a late selection on the final climbs that proved decisive.
With just under 10 kilometers to go, a group of GC contenders and strong climbers—including Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez), Anna van der Breggen (Team SD Worx - Protime), Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (Team Visma | Lease A Bike), and Katarzyna Niewiadoma (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto)—pulled clear. Le Court Pienaar, who had already collected time bonuses at the intermediate sprint, powered to the stage win ahead of Vollering and Van der Breggen. Marianne Vos (Team Visma | Lease A Bike), who started the day in yellow, finished 33 seconds back.
Le Court Pienaar's victory, along with a 16-second time bonus, vaulted her into the overall lead. She now holds an 18-second advantage over Ferrand-Prévot, with Vollering in third at 23 seconds.
Kristen Faulkner (EF-Oatly-Cannondale), who had crashed in each of the first four stages, abandoned the race midway through the day. Several early breakaway attempts were reeled in before the final selection was made over the Cat. 3 climb of Le Maupuy.
