Garcia Wins Stage 2 of the Tour de France Femmes
Mavi García (Liv-AlUla-Jayco) claimed a brilliant solo victory in Quimper after attacking with just under 8 kilometers to go and holding off a furious chase by the peloton. Her perfectly timed move on the final climbs of the day earned her the stage win, her first in the Tour de France Femmes.
Despite disorganization in the chasing group, Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx-Protime) launched a strong sprint to take second place, three seconds behind García. Mary Patricia Kimberley Le Court De Billot-Pienaar (AG Insurance–Soudal Team) rounded out the podium in third. Liane Lippert (Movistar) and Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney (Canyon//SRAM zondacrypto) completed the top five.
The day's rolling terrain featured three categorized climbs, including the steep Côte de Locronan and two ascents of the Côte du Chemin de Trohéir on the final finishing circuit. Élise Chabbey (FDJ-Suez) defended her polka dot jersey with more QOM points earned on the early climbs, while a crash mid-race and multiple splits in the peloton made for a dynamic, unpredictable contest.
The general classification saw no major changes, with Marianne Vos (Team Visma | Lease A Bike) retaining the yellow jersey despite finishing outside the top five. She continues to lead by four seconds over Le Court-Pienaar, with Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (Team Visma | Lease A Bike) remaining third overall.
Tomorrow’s stage could provide opportunities for the GC contenders or puncheurs, especially if the terrain proves selective late in the day.
