Marianne Vos Seizes Yellow in Explosive Finish on Côte de Cadoudal

Marianne Vos (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) stormed to victory in Stage 1 of the Tour de France Femmes, winning the uphill sprint in Plumelec to claim the yellow jersey. The Dutch legend timed her final move to perfection on the steep slopes of the Côte de Cadoudal, a 1.7-kilometre climb averaging 6.2%, which the peloton tackled three times over the 79-kilometre opener.

Vos’s teammate Pauline Ferrand-Prévot helped set up the decisive attack under the flamme rouge, before Vos surged past the remaining contenders to take the win in 1:53:03. Mary Patricia Kimberley Le Court De Billot-Pienaar (AG Insurance – Soudal Team) finished second, and Ferrand-Prévot rounded out the podium.

The stage saw a flurry of attacks, including solo moves from Maud Rijnbeek (VolkerWessels Women’s Pro Cycling) and Francesca Barale (Team Picnic PostNL), but each was reeled in as the bigger teams positioned for the final climb. Élise Chabbey (FDJ-Suez) claimed the first Queen of the Mountains jersey after winning the points on the earlier ascents.

A crash in the neutral zone delayed the official start, but once racing began, the peloton tackled four categorized climbs, including three ascents of the Côte de Cadoudal. Despite damp conditions and the withdrawal of Marlen Reusser (Movistar Team) due to illness, the stage delivered an action-packed opener to the eight-day race.

Vos now leads the general classification heading into Stage 2, a 101.6-kilometre route from Mauron to Loudeac that features several short climbs and an uphill finish, suiting punchy riders and possibly a reduced bunch sprint.
