Course Preview
The women' s edition of Paris- Roubaix navigates an intense route of 148. 5 kilometers featuring seventeen cobbled sectors, totaling 29. 2 kilometers on bone- crushing pavé.
The women set off from Denain, located 50 kilometers south of Roubaix. After two laps south of the former coal town – one small and one larger – the riders head for the cobbles.
The riders navigate 17 ‘secteurs’, the first of which is the longest of the day. Stretching from Hornaing to Wandignies, this sector is 3. 7 kilometers long and classified with 4 stars. No rest for the wicked, as the cobbles come thick and fast thereafter. Approximately every 6 kilometers, a new set of cobbles from hell is presented. No Forest of Wallers, but Mons- en- Pévèle is definitely included in the women' s race, featuring 2, 2,985 meters of hardship on bone- crushing pavé. After leaving Mons- en- Pévèle, still eleven sectors remain. The riders tackle the pavé of Mérignies à Avelin (700 meters), Pont- Thibault à Ennevelin (1, 400 meters), Templeuve – L' Epinette (200 meters), Templeuve- Moulin- de- Vertain (500 meters), Cysoing à Bourghelles (1, 300 meters), Bourghelles à Wannehain (1, 100 meters), and Camphin- en- Pévèle (1, 800 meters).
The riders reach the iconic Carrefour de l' Arbre with 16. 5 kilometers remaining. At 2, 086 meters, this stretch of pavé is notorious for its sloped corners. After 1, 200 meters, a tricky left- hand bend leads to a slight ascent. If specialists want to seize their moment on the beloved pavé, Carrefour de l' Arbre offers one last opportunity. At the end, the riders turn right at Restaurant l' Arbre Gruson before enjoying the heavenly feel of smooth asphalt nearly all the way to the Velodrome in Roubaix.
Just two more innocuous sectors, Gruson and Willems à Hem, lead to the final cobbled section in Roubaix itself, a fitting tribute to the race. The cobbles are neatly arranged to minimize discomfort. From here, riders enter the old Velodrome with one and a half laps to go.
Last year' s race concluded in a six- way sprint at the Roubaix Velodrome. Earlier, a group led by Amber Kraak, Ellen van Dijk, Lotte Kopecky, and Marianne Vos departed Carrefour de l' Arbre in the lead, before Elisa Balsamo and Pfeiffer Georgi bridged the gap just 5 kilometers later. Kopecky left it late to launch her sprint but powered through the outside lane to take the victory ahead of Balsamo and Georgi.
