Søren Wærenskjold wins Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
In the 80th edition of the Omloop, a group of around fifty riders came together in the final eight kilometres. Søren Wærenskjold then sprinted to victory, holding off Paul Magnier, who took second, and Jasper Philipsen.
Elmar Reinders, Julius van den Berg, Victor Vercouillie, and Hartthijs de Vries attacked early in the race. Later, Giosuè Epis, Siebe Deweirdt, and Enzo Leijnse joined them, forming a lead group of seven riders. They built a maximum advantage of over seven minutes.
With 50 kilometers to go, the gap dropped below two minutes as Joshua Tarling launched a counterattack.
A group featuring Matteo Jorgenson, Jasper Philipsen, Paul Magnier, Kaden Groves, and Tom Pidcock broke away from the peloton on the approach to the Leberg.
With 30 kilometers to go, all groups on the road came back together while defending champion Jan Tratnik suffered a puncture just before the Muur van Geraardsbergen. A group of around twenty riders reached the summit together.
Stefan Küng attacked inside the last 10 kilometers, and two kilometers later, the chasing group was reinforced by about thirty riders from behind.
