Race Recap
Jasper Philipsen Wins K-B-K
For the first time in several years, Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne came down to a bunch sprint. Kaden Groves set up Jasper Philipsen with a strong lead-out, and the Belgian took the win. Olav Kooij finished in second, with Hugo Hofstetter in third.
Despite several attacks, the peloton was still bunched after 40 kilometres. Then, Dries De Bondt, Huub Artz, Ward Vanhoof, Marius Mayrhofer, Tomáš Kopecky, Ceriel Desal, and Axandre Van Petegem made a move. In no time, they opened up a 5-minute gap over the peloton.
Timo Kielich, Lewis Askey, and Jhonatan Narváez launched a chase that lasted around 90 kilometers. By then, the attackers’ lead was around 3 minutes.
Kielich was dropped from the chasing group due to a mechanical issue, while Tim Wellens accelerated in the peloton on the cobbles of Mont Saint Laurent, with Jonas Abrahamsen on his wheel. They rejoined Askey, who had been dropped.
A regroupment occurred inside the last 80 kilometres, as the attackers were still 2 minutes adrift.
Stefan Bissegger attacked in the lead-up to the CĂ´te du Trieu. On the climb, Tim Wellens joined him, and together, they closed the gap to the leaders.
In the final 35 kilometres, De Bondt accelerated, with only Wellens, Desal, and Mayrhofer able to follow. The peloton trailed by around half a minute at that moment.
The four were reeled in just after the first passage on the line, and then it was up to the fast men.
Kaden Groves provided an excellent lead-out for Jasper Philipsen, who finished it off in style. Olav Kooij had to settle for second place, while Hugo Hofstetter crossed the line in third.
