Race Recap
Healy Wins Stage, Almeida Stays in Yellow
With approximately 55 kilometres remaining, Ben Healy distanced himself from his breakaway companions – Pello Bilbao, Alex Baudin, Bruno Armirail, Warren Barguil, and Julian Alaphilippe. The Irish cyclist did not look back and secured a commanding solo victory, with the general classification remaining unchanged.
After approximately five kilometres, Luc Wirtgen, Robert Stannard, Bastien Tronchon, Samuele Battistella, Alexander Kamp, and Joris Delbove combined their efforts. The peloton maintained its pursuit, ultimately reeling in the last two riders first, closely followed by the others.
Eight riders attempted to gain an advantage on the Las Campas climb, but they too were denied any significant leeway. On the higher slopes, Pello Bilbao, Ben Healy, and Alex Baudin made their move, with Bruno Armirail joining them shortly thereafter. Their efforts proved more fruitful, while Warren Barguil and Julian Alaphilippe sought to catch them during the descent.
The six-man group established a lead of just under three minutes; however, this advantage was reduced to less than two minutes by the time Healy initiated his solo effort. With still 55 kilometres on the clock, the outcome remained uncertain. Healy's lead over the peloton expanded once again, reaching nearly three minutes before it diminished to two minutes, still sufficient for him to secure victory. In a decisive maneuver in the final kilometres, Axel Laurance surged ahead of the main group and managed to secure second place. João Almeida followed just one second later, successfully preserving his lead in the overall standings.
