Course Preview
Stage 2 of the Tour of the Basque Country takes the riders on a 199.8-kilometre journey from Pamplona to Lodosa. By Basque standards, the amount of climbing is modest, with a total of 2,000 metres.
The route features only one classified climb, the Alto de la Olivia, which ascends 4.9 kilometres with an average gradient of 4.6%. The steepest part is in the middle section, while the sprint for KOM points occurs after 56.6 kilometres. Essentially, it's a chance to secure mountain points.
The descent begins roughly 10 kilometres later, followed by 40 kilometres on flat terrain. In the more undulating section that follows, the riders will pass through the finish line for the first time.
The 2nd stage concludes with a 62.1-kilometre lap on gently rolling roads. In the final 12 kilometres, there’s a 2.2-kilometre stretch averaging 4.3%, before the riders descend to the completely flat finale.
The first three riders across the line earn 10, 6, and 4 bonus seconds, while the intermediate sprints award 3, 2, and 1 seconds.
