2025 Itzulia Basque Country Stage 1 Live Coverage
Welcome to our live coverage of Stage 1 of the 2025 Itzulia Basque Country! Our live time-trial times and commentary are below, followed by a preview of the technical aspects of the route.
Course Preview
The Itzulia Basque Country kicks off with an ITT. The route is set to the northeast of the cycling hotbed Vitoria-Gasteiz.
While the course is mostly flat, the organizers have still managed to include a minor climb. This is probably just to have a KOM jersey to award, as it’s barely more than a false flat. It’s a 1-kilometer stretch at 2.8%, with the ‘summit’ coming after 4.3 kilometers.
The rest of the route is slightly undulating, before the final 6.5 kilometers are as flat as a pancake.
Last year’s Tour of the Basque Country also kicked off with an individual time trial, but that route was much more challenging. Primoz Roglic took the win ahead of Jay Vine and Mattias Skjelmose.
