The major figures of cycling are absent from the Itzulia Basque Country, allowing lesser-known riders to ignite the excitement in one of the most captivating stage races on the calendar.

The general classification action begins as early as the first day, with the race kicking off with an individual time trial. While it’s a relatively easy flat test, time gaps are sure to emerge. Stage 2 is designed for the sprinters, before Stage 3 features an elevation gain of nearly 3,200 metres, culminating in a steep ascent. A similar narrative unfolds on day four. On paper, the routes appear enticing for attackers, but the dynamics may shift when the general classification contenders decide to make their move.

Stage 5 is relatively easy, yet the finale could still be a stage for general classification riders to apply pressure on their rivals. However, to be frank, the most likely outcome is that the general classification battle will hinge on the final stage. Seven categorized climbs contribute to a total elevation gain of over 3,500 metres over a 153.6-kilometre route. Interestingly, the climbs are located relatively far from the finish line, so early attacks are anticipated.

Two former winners will line up at the start: Daniel Felipe MartĂnez (2022) and Ion Izagirre (2019).
