Stage 6 of the Giro d’Italia presents a 226-kilometre route from Potenza to Naples. The initial 140 kilometres feature rolling terrain, giving way to flatlands later in the race.

Potenza last welcomed the Giro three years ago, when Koen Bouwman emerged victorious after a thrilling hilly stage. This year, the provincial capital again serves as the starting point. The riders head towards Naples, confronting a challenging start with rolling hills. Although the gradients are gentle, the route ascends right from the beginning. This is followed by a long descent towards the Valico di Monte Carruozzo, which offers a 19.9-kilometre climb at an average gradient of 3.8%, influenced by a flat segment midway.

After the descent, the course continues with undulating terrain until the climb to Monteforte Irpino begins as a false flat and culminates with a 3.8-kilometre stretch at 4.6%. At the top, 82 kilometres are left in the race. A gradual descent leads to flat roads where smooth sailing continues to the finish line.

Following a prolonged absence, Naples and the Giro have rekindled their connection over the past three years. Last year, Olav Kooij achieved his first Grand Tour stage win in this city by outsprinting Jonathan Milan and Sebastián Molano. In 2023, Mads Pedersen secured victory in a tight sprint finish, while Thomas De Gendt successfully executed a breakaway in 2022.

In prior years, legendary riders like Mark Cavendish, Mario Cipollini, and Rik van Steenbergen also claimed triumphs on the streets of Naples. Overall, the city has hosted a Giro stage finish 46 times.
