Race Recap
Pedersen Takes Fourth Win
Romain Bardet and Mathias Vacek launched an attack in the finale, but they were caught on the punchy finishing climb. It came down to a showdown between Mads Pedersen and Wout van Aert, with the Dane claiming victory. Isaac del Toro finished third and retained the pink jersey.
Dries De Bondt and Sven Erik Bystrøm initiated the breakaway after 12 kilometers of action, while Lorenzo Milesi, Luca Mozzato, Fran Miholjević, Lorenzo Germani, Chris Hamilton, Mattia Bais, and Filippo Magli joined them. The nine riders opened up a 2-minute lead.
Germani broke away before the climb to San Giovanni in Monte, and the rest of the breakaway was caught on the ascent. Wout van Aert was dropped by the hard-chasing favorites but managed to regain contact later, along with half the peloton. Meanwhile, Christian Scaroni bridged across to Germani.
The two riders opened a 1-minute gap over the peloton, but by the time they crossed the line for the first time, it had been reduced to half.
On the climb to Arcugnano, Scaroni dropped Germani. In the intermediate sprint for time bonuses, Juan Ayuso took 4 seconds and Del Toro 2. Shortly after, Scaroni was caught.
Romain Bardet attacked on the descent, and Mathias Vacek went with him. They built a 17-second lead before the sprint came down to a showdown between the two fastmen.
