Course Preview

The 2025 Giro d’Italia kicks off with a 164-kilometre route that includes three climbs. Riders will tackle the Surrel twice as part of the finishing circuit. The Surrel features a 4.9-kilometre ascent at an average gradient of 5.4%, followed by an 11.3-kilometre descent to the finish line.

Starting from the port city of Durazzo, also known as Durrës in Albanian, the race begins with a flat section stretching 70 kilometres. The cyclists will then ascend to Gracen, covering 13.5 kilometres at an average gradient of 5.2%.

Post-descent, the riders will navigate flat roads until their first crossing of the finish line, which occurs with 44 kilometres remaining. The route includes two identical local laps to complete the course.

Each lap features the Surrel, a 4.9-kilometre hill with an average gradient of 5.4%. It's worth noting that this average can be misleading, as the initial 1.1 kilometres climb at a steeper 8.1%.

The second and final summit of the Surrel is reached with 11.3 kilometres to go, and this concluding stretch is entirely downhill.
