Martinez Wins Final Stage

Lenny Martinez made a bold move by dropping his breakaway companion Enric Mas in the final 3 kilometers of the last climb. At the summit of Plateau du Mont-Cenis, he skillfully held off Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard, leading him to a triumphant solo victory. Meanwhile, Pogacar clinched the overall win.

Mathieu van der Poel and Ben Healy took the initiative on Côte de Saint-Georges-d’Hurtières. Unfortunately, the Dutchman lost contact, making way for Maxim Van Gils, Sepp Kuss, Enric Mas, Valentin Paret-Peintre, Lenny Martinez, Bruno Armirail, Iván Romeo, and Alexey Lutsenko to join the chase.

As they descended, Mathieu van der Poel found his way back to the front, now joined by Jordan Jegat. Down in the valley, Guillaume Martin, Sergio Higuita, Tobias Foss, Jake Stewart, and Mathys Rondel managed to bridge the gap, giving the twelve riders a maximum advantage of 4 minutes.

By the time they reached the summit of the Col de Beaune, that gap had nearly been halved, and Stewart was no longer part of the front group.

Mathieu van der Poel set out alone in the run-up to the Côte de Saint-André, creating a 1-minute gap over the others and a 3-minute margin over the peloton, which he successfully maintained all the way to the summit of Côte d’Aussois.

In the final 16 kilometers, Van der Poel watched as his former breakaway companions surged ahead. At that point, the peloton was trailing by a minute and a half.

With 6 kilometers remaining to climb, the breakaway consisted of Mas, Healy, and Martinez. Eventually, Healy succumbed to the pace set by Mas. Martinez stayed on the Spaniard’s wheel for a bit before making his move in the final 3 kilometers of the climb.

Further down the mountain, Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogačar made their move from a group that also featured Remco Evenepoel.

The two broke away from the others but didn’t put in much effort to chase down Martinez. Consequently, the young Frenchman celebrated a fantastic stage win, while Pogacar secured the overall victory.
