Pogacar Takes Control

Tadej Pogacar made a strong attack early on the Côte de Domancy, with 8 kilometers to go. Jonas Vingegaard briefly kept pace with him but soon the world champion surged ahead, finishing solo. He won the stage with a one-minute advantage over Vingegaard and claimed the new race lead.

Mathieu van der Poel launched an immediate attack, joined by Fabien Doubey, Victor Guernalec, and Anders Foldager. Soon, Toms Skujiņs, Søren Wærenskjold, and Fabian Weiss formed a front group of eight, but they were eventually caught.

The day's breakaway occurred with 100 kilometers remaining, initiated by Michael Leonard. He was joined by Bruno Armirail, Andreas Leknessund, Dion Smith, and Anthony Turgis. Later on, Alex Baudin, Romain Bardet, and Mathieu van der Poel bridged the gap, creating a seven-man lead that peaked at two minutes.

At the Côte de Mont-Saxonnex, only Leonard and Baudin were left at the front, while the group of favorites crossed the summit one minute later.

At the start of the Côte de Domancy, Baudin dropped Leonard. Tadej Pogacar did similarly within the favorites' group. Vingegaard stayed with him briefly, but soon the Slovenian was on his own. With 6.7 kilometers to go, Pogacar caught Baudin, who held on for a few hundred meters before the world champion pulled away.

Pogacar struck gold! He finished one minute and one second ahead of Vingegaard, with Florian Lipowitz arriving 22 seconds later. The three took the lead in the general classification, while Remco Evenepoel finished in fifth place, dropping from first to fourth overall.
