The 6th stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné is a compact 139.1-kilometer stage featuring nearly 2,900 meters of climbing. The finish is located at the Col de la Cry, reached after a final ascent totaling 9 kilometers.

The Col de la Cry itself is a 2.7-kilometer climb at 7.2%, but since it is preceded by the Côte de Domancy and the sections between the two KOMs also rise, it can be considered a final ascent of 9 kilometers with an average gradient of roughly 7%. The steepest section appears right at the beginning, as the second kilometer of the Côte de Domancy ramps up to 12%.

Jonas Vingegaard will have fond memories of this final climb. Two years ago, he stormed to victory on the same roads during the Tour de France time trial. On that day, he put over a minute and a half into Tadej Pogacar. However, the finish line back then was in Combloux, just before the foot of the Col de la Cry.

Stage 6 of the Critérium du Dauphiné begins in Valserhône and winds over rolling terrain to the first of five categorized climbs. The Côte de Villy-le-Pelloux is only 800 meters long and averages a punchy 8.1%. After the KOM sprint, the road continues to rise for a while before descending into the Fillière valley.

The riders then tackle a false flat up to Thorens-Glières, followed by the Col des Fleuris: 5.1 kilometers at 4.4%. Roughly 15 kilometers later, the Côte de Mont-Saxonnex adds a serious sting with 5.4 kilometers at 8.7%.

From the top, the route descends into the Arve valley, where the riders follow the river upstream for 23 kilometers toward Domancy. There, they encounter the local Côte: 2.4 kilometers at 8.6%, with the second kilometer, as mentioned, peaking at 12%. The gradient eases to around 5%, and after passing through Combloux, the final ascent up the Col de la Cry begins.

The first three riders to cross the finish line receive time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint offers 3, 2, and 1 second respectively.
