Course Preview

Stage 4 of the Critérium du Dauphiné is a 17.7-kilometre individual time trial featuring a punchy climb halfway through. With few corners along the route, breakneck speeds are to be expected.

The route initially follows the Rhône, but after 6 kilometres the riders leave the valley and tackle a short climb of 1.8 kilometres at an average gradient of 8.7%. Once over the top, it’s a descent into Toulaud, where the riders head north towards the finish in Saint-Péray. The approach to the line is straight and slightly downhill for the first 3 kilometres, so expect high speeds.

In Saint-Péray itself, two sharp corners will take some of the pace out of the run-in, but it’s still 500 metres of full gas to the line.

There’s an intermediate time check after 10.5 kilometres.

Last year’s time trial at the Critérium du Dauphiné was twice as long. On a flat to rolling course, Remco Evenepoel came out on top, finishing ahead of Joshua Tarling and Primoz Roglic.
