Race Recap
Romeo Wins Stage 3
Iván Romeo launched an attack during the final 6 kilometres, lasting through the breakaway to claim both the stage win and the yellow jersey.
From the beginning, there were numerous attacks, and Jonathan Milan was among those left behind in the hilly terrain. Later, as they approached the intermediate sprint, Louis Barré made a strong move, joined swiftly by Remco Evenepoel. Tadej Pogacar reacted unfavorably, and before the sprint unfolded, they regrouped. In the end, Barré received 3 bonus seconds, Pogacar got 2, and Evenepoel earned 1.
Barré surged ahead with competitors Van der Poel, Florian Lipowitz, Axel Laurance, Michael Leonard, Maximilian Schachmann, Julien Bernard, Iván Romeo, Harold Tejada, Andreas Leknessund, Brieuc Rolland, Krists Neilands, Antony Turgis, and Eddie Dunbar. They established a lead exceeding 2 minutes, while Milan and others rejoined the peloton ahead of the Côte de Malataverne.
The leading group reached the Côte du Château Jaune with a 1-minute advantage over the peloton. Lipowitz, Bernard, Tejada, and Leknessund detached themselves from the group, while Milan lost touch within the peloton.
Van der Poel and Barré were the first to catch up with the leading quartet, soon followed by Romeo and the others. The 21-year-old Spaniard launched his attack with 6 kilometres remaining. He gradually pulled away from the others, meter by meter.
The pursuit began too late, allowing Romeo to cross the finish line solo in triumph. He secured the yellow jersey, finishing 17 seconds ahead of Barré and 18 seconds clear of Tejada.\n
