The riders tackle a 202.8-kilometer stage with nearly 3,000 meters of elevation gain. With 19 kilometers to go, a short, steep climb of 1.2 kilometers at 9.2% presents the final serious obstacle, while the last kilometers rise gently to the finish line.

Brioude last hosted the Dauphiné four years ago, with the stage finishing in Saugues, where Lukas Pöstlberger claimed victory from the breakaway. For the finishing town of Charantonnay, welcoming a pro peloton is a first.

Along the route, the riders face five official climbs. Right from the start, the Côte de Cornille ascends 4.1 kilometers at 4.8%, followed without any significant descent by the Côte de la Barbate, which stretches 5.8 kilometers at 6.9%. The riders reach the summit of that second climb after 18 kilometers.

The race remains at high elevation for several dozen kilometers before descending to the Loire, crossing the river, and taking on the Côte de Malataverne. This climb stretches 5.9 kilometers at 3.9%, with a false flat extension after the sprint for mountain points. The riders remain at high elevation again before the Col du Tracol adds 2.9 kilometers at 4.2% to the mix. They then descend into the Rhône Valley.

Once down, just over 40 kilometers remain. This section begins with a false flat stretch of more than 20 kilometers before the Côte de Cornille presents 1.2 kilometers at an average gradient of 9.2% toward the sprint for mountain points. The road continues to gradually rise. After reaching the summit, 17 kilometers remain to the finish, with no significant obstacles along the route.

After the descent, there are 12 kilometers to go to the finish in Charantonnay. Aside from a descending segment of just under 2 kilometers, it’s a steady false flat all the way to the line.

The first three riders to cross the finish line receive time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint offers bonuses of 3, 2, and 1 second, respectively.
