Stage 2 of the Critérium du Dauphiné is a hilly race spanning 204.6 kilometers, featuring over 2,800 meters of elevation gain. The closing circuit, measuring 42.9 kilometers, is flat to gently rolling.

This means that nearly all of the elevation gain is concentrated in the first 160 kilometers of the race. Four climbs stand out in the first half: the Côte de la Font Nanaud (3.4 kilometers at 4.6%), Côte de Saint Priest-des-Champs (1.3 kilometers at 5%), Côte des Rivauds (3.5 kilometers at 4.8%), and Côte de Saint Jacques d’Ambur (3 kilometers at 5.1%). Over rolling terrain, the riders reach the intermediate sprint in Olby halfway through the stage.

After the sprint, the road ascends for 7 kilometers at about 3%, followed by a descent and a gradually climbing stretch leading to the day’s steepest ascent: the Côte du Château de Buron – 3.5 kilometers at 6.7%. After the KOM sprint, the road continues to climb briefly before descending toward the finishing circuit.

As noted, the circuit is 42.9 kilometers long. The roads are mainly flat to rolling, with one significant rise: the Côte de Nonette – 1.8 kilometers at 5.7%. The summit is reached 17.9 kilometers from the finish line.

The first three riders to cross the finish line receive time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint offers 3, 2, and 1 second respectively.
