Race Recap
Pogacar Takes Early Lead
Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogacar, Santiago Buitrago, Mathieu van der Poel, and Remco Evenepoel energized the final five kilometers. As the finishing straight approached, the peloton seemed poised to catch up just as Van der Poel accelerated his sprint. Pogacar quickly surged ahead to claim victory, with Vingegaard finishing second.
Paul Ourselin and Pierre Thierry led the breakaway, building a lead of up to four minutes.
With 37 kilometers remaining, only Thierry was still in front. He was nearly caught as Fred Wright made the connection. Together, they created a 45-second lead over the peloton, which was reduced once Wright broke away alone with 23 kilometers to go.
On the final climb, the peloton overtook Wright, and within the last 5.5 kilometers, Jonas Vingegaard launched an attack. Tadej Pogacar, Santiago Buitrago, and Mathieu van der Poel followed suit, while Remco Evenepoel closed the distance shortly after.
In the final stretch, the leading five held a 10-second advantage over the chasing peloton. With 300 meters left, they seemed destined to be caught, but Van der Poel had other plans. He initiated a long-range sprint, effectively acting as the ideal lead-out man. Pogacar was the first to pass him, followed by Vingegaard, which was also the sequence in which they finished, with Evenepoel coming in fourth.
Buitrago was overtaken by the pack, where Jake Stewart claimed the sprint.
