Stage 3 of the 2024 Tour of the Alps is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

Stage 3 of the Tour of the Alps delivered another gripping day of racing in the mountains as the peloton tackled a demanding route that tested the climbers in the field once again.
The stage saw attacks flying early as the more aggressive riders attempted to establish a breakaway on the opening climbs. A group eventually managed to get clear of the peloton and build a substantial gap, but the GC teams were not prepared to let things get out of hand with significant time bonuses and summit finishes still to come in the race.
As the race approached the final climb, the peloton had reeled in the escapees, and it came down to the pure climbers to settle the day's outcome. The pace on the final ascent was brutal, with several riders cracking under the sustained pressure and losing contact with the leading group.
JoĂŁo Almeida put in a commanding performance on the final climb, using his climbing strength to distance his rivals and take a stage victory that also strengthened his position in the overall classification. The UAE Team Emirates rider demonstrated his class on the steep gradients, proving once again that he is one of the finest stage racers in the current peloton.
Behind him, a select group of GC contenders crossed the line within a short time of each other, with the overall standings shifting slightly as a result. The race remains tight at the top and the battles in the remaining stages promise to be just as intense.
