Race Recap

Stage 2 delivered a thrilling and demanding day of racing through the Alpine terrain, with the peloton facing a relentless series of climbs that whittled down the contenders well before the finish line came into view.

The race was animated from early on, with a breakaway group establishing itself in the opening kilometers. The escapees worked well together and built a substantial gap over the peloton, which was content for much of the day to let the move go up the road. However, as the race entered its decisive final climb, the teams of the general classification favorites began to increase the tempo, systematically reeling in the remnants of the break.

On the final ascent, the pace became truly punishing, and one by one riders were shed from the lead group. It was JoĂŁo Almeida who demonstrated his exceptional climbing form, attacking with conviction and riding away from his rivals to take a commanding stage victory. The Portuguese rider was in supreme condition, powering up the gradient with an authority that left his competitors unable to respond.

Behind Almeida, a small group of GC contenders fought hard to limit their losses, with several notable names finishing within a manageable time deficit. Others, however, found the day far too hard and conceded significant time to the front of the race.

With Almeida's stage win also came the overall race lead, setting up what promises to be a fascinating continuation of the race over the remaining stages in the days ahead.
