Yates continues dominance

The UAE Emirates show continued in the Queen Stage of the Tour de Suisse. Teammates Adam Yates and João Almeida crossed the line together, with the Brit slightly ahead of the Portuguese rider. This strengthened his lead in the General Classification.

The route climbed from the start, and attacks were flying. However, there was no breakaway at the summit, although Axel Laurance, Finlay Pickering, Louis Vervaeke, and Maxim Van Gils enjoyed a small lead. On the descent, Harold Martín López, Valentin Paret-Peintre, Einer Rubio, Johannes Staune-Mittet, Jan Christen, and Sylvain Moniquet replaced Laurance and Vervaeke.

The peloton kept chasing for a while, but eventually, the gap extended to over 2 minutes.

On the first full ascent of the Col de la Croix, the gap narrowed to one minute, prompting Staune-Mittet to continue solo. He reaches the summit 40 seconds ahead of the peloton.

The other seven attackers were swallowed up, and then the chase stalled. The 22-year-old Norwegian extended his lead back to 1:30 minutes.

Staune-Mittet’s valiant effort finally succumbed in the last four kilometres of the grueling finishing climb. Felix Gall, who launched a daring attack from the GC group, was the first rider to overtake him. He opened up a 17-second lead over the yellow jersey group.

João Almeida, Adam Yates, Wilco Kelderman, and Matthew Riccitello formed a united front in the chase behind the Austrian. The first two riders, Almeida and Yates, demonstrated the power of teamwork as they made the catch with 2 kilometers left and rode on together toward the finish line. In a show of camaraderie, the yellow jersey was gifted the win.
