Race Recap
Almeida wins stage 6
João Almeida, fueled by his team's unwavering support, showcased his sheer determination by clinching the stage win. Adam Yates, equally resolute, secured second place, maintaining his firm grip on the overall lead. Mattias Skjelmose, a force to be reckoned with, claimed third, while Egan Bernal, with his unyielding performance, solidified his third place in the GC by crossing the finish line in fourth.
Frank van den Broek, Stefan Bissegger and Anders Foldager established the breakaway early on. The trio tackled the finishing climb over one minute ahead of the peloton.
Van den Broek went alone on the climb, while Cian Uijtdebroeks and Enric Mas were dropped from the GC group.
Adam Yates, with a strategic move, launched an attack with 3.5 kilometres remaining. He swiftly overtook the lone attacker and continued his solo run. However, the first chasers – João Almeida, Egan Bernal, Mattias Skjelmose – were hot on his heels, keeping the race thrillingly close.
Almeida caught up with Yates in the final kilometre. He took the lead, seemingly to set the pace for his team leader, but he pushed so hard that he dropped Yates in the last 500 meters. The Portuguese rider didn't wait and won the race by 6 seconds ahead of Yates. With the bonus seconds added, he closed the gap by 10 seconds, but the Brit still holds the lead in the general classification.
