Nys wins stage 3

Thibau Nys powered to a commanding victory on the uphill home straight in Rüschlikon. The young Belgian kept Stephen Williams and Alberto Bettiol at bay. The latter is the new overall race leader.

Fabian Lienhard, Johan Jacobs, Roberto Carlos González, Christoph Janssen, and Luca Jenny established the breakaway early on. The five rode to a maximum lead of four minutes.

When the leaders entered the hilly zone, the gap has fallen to 30 seconds. Johan Jacobs headed out alone to extend his lead to one minute, but he was caught with 18 kilometres remaining.

Despite several attempts, the pack remained bunched until Marc Hirschi struck with three kilometres to go. He opened up a gap before being caught inside the last kilometre.

Then, Wilco Kelderman launched an attack with a massive gear. Thibau Nys chose his wheel, and used the Dutchman as his lead-out for the Belgian. In the final 150 meters, Nys accelerated. Stephen Williams and Alberto Bettiol tried to come across, but they failed to do so. Nys won convincingly.
