What a stunning day in the Alps as Tadej Pogacar once again demonstrated why he is the most dominant force in professional cycling right now. The Slovenian superstar claimed victory on the legendary climb of Alpe d'Huez, delivering a performance that left his rivals gasping and the crowd absolutely delirious on the famous hairpin bends.
The stage was one of the most demanding of this year's race, featuring multiple significant climbs before the iconic ascent to the finish line. From the early kilometers it was clear that the general classification contenders were ready to settle some scores, with teams jostling for position and setting a furious tempo through the valley roads.
As the race hit the critical climbs before Alpe d'Huez, Pogacar's UAE Team Emirates squad put the hammer down, systematically shedding rivals and reducing the lead group to just a handful of the strongest riders in the peloton. Jonas Vingegaard, the defending champion and Pogacar's most dangerous rival, was visible in the group but appeared to be suffering more than the Slovenian.
When Pogacar finally made his decisive move on the slopes of Alpe d'Huez itself, it was devastating in its efficiency. He simply rode away from everyone, including Vingegaard, powering through the cheering fans lining every hairpin to cross the line alone with his arms raised.
The victory further extends his overall lead in the general classification, and on this form it is very difficult to see anyone stopping him from riding into Paris in yellow.
