Race Recap
Groenewegen takes stage 6
The sixth stage was relatively uneventful until a furious finale when Dylan Groenewegen charged to a sprint win while Tadej Pogacar retained the yellow jersey.
Initially, there was no interest in forming the breakaway. When KOM leader Jonas Abrahamsen left the peloton to take the only point at the Col du Bois Clair, Alex Zingle joined him. The two then pushed on together, but never with the intention to beat the peloton.
Zingle and Abrahamsen opened up a lead of over one minute before they were reeled in the run-up to the intermediate sprint, where Jasper Philipsen took the most points for the green jersey.
At 80 kilometers from the finish, Visma | Lease a Bike put down the hammer to split the peloton into echelons. João Almeida, Juan Ayuso, Tim Wellens, and the Yates brothers found themselves in the second group. It was a short burst of excitement, and they regained contact within 10 kilometers.
Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) finished second and the green jersey Biniam Girmay (Intermarché Wanty) claimed third.
