Race Recap
Kerbaol Crushes Stage 6
Cédrine Kerbaol attacked on the descent of the last climb of the day, the Côte des Fins. The 23-year French rider soloed to victory, while Kasia Niewiadoma stayed in the general classification lead.
Justine Ghekiere attacked on the Op de Col du Mont de Fourche. She was also the first rider before she opened a gap with Mischa Bredewold, Neve Bradbury, Amanda Spratt, Grace Brown, Amber Kraak, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig, Silvia Persico, Valentina Cavallar and Anouska Koster.
The attackers were brought back at kilometre 25.
Audrey Cordon-Ragot and Iurani Blanco jumped clear in the flat phase leading up to the hills in the last 75 kilometres. The two were accompanied by Christine Majerus, Franziska Koch, Ellen van Dijk, and Fem van Empel before Anya Louw, Amber Pate, Nina Berton, Sheyla Gutiérrez, Julie De Wilde, Victoire Berteau, Maaike Coljé, and Anniina Ahtosalo also made it across.
Marianne Vos, Niamh Fisher-Black, Soraya Paladin, and Grace Brown made it 18 at the front in the run-up to the Col de Ferrière. Ghekiere took the most QOM points at the summit, and also at the Côte de Laviron.
The gap fell to 1 minute on the La Roche du Prêtre. This inspired Fisher-Black to attack from the break. Paladin, Ghekiere, Brown, and Gutiérrez followed her move.
Fisher-Black headed out alone in the last 750 metres of the climb. Brown and Ghekiere regained contact just after the summit.
Juliette Labous and Pauliena Rooijakkers took turns attacking Côte des Fins, which not only resulted in a reduced peloton but also the end of the breakaway. Puck Pieterse accelerated in the last phase, and yellow jersey Kasia Niewiadoma and Demi Vollering followed her move.
Pauliena Rooijakkers and Cédrine Kerbaol went on the counter-attack. The French rider dropped her Dutch colleague and opened up a 40-second gap.
Kerbaol powered on to take the best win in her career. Niewiadoma finished safely in the chasing group to retain the maillot jaune.
