Race Recap
Vas is First Class
Yellow jersey Demi Vollering hit the deck with 6 kilometres remaining before a group of five riders entered the final kilometre. It ran uphill, and Blanka Vas outgunned Kasia Niewiadoma, who moved into the overall race lead.
Elena Pirrone was the first attacker. Michaela Drummond joined her, and together, they set sail for the first climb of the day, Côte de Hotte. The two were caught just after the Hotte’s summit.
Attacks kept flying, with the likes of Loes Adegeest, Marthe Truyen, Olivia Baril, and Lily Williams all giving it a go.
Wilma Aintila was next to try. Amandine Fouquenet bridged across with the first attacker of the day, Elena Pirrone. That break was history on the Côte de Saint-Pancré, while Puck Pieterse cemented her QOM lead at the summit.
Then Loes Adegeest went again. Fem van Empel and Julie Van de Velde tracked her down after the CĂ´te de Fermont. The three opened up a gap of almost 3 minutes.
The gap fell to 20 seconds on the last climb, the CĂ´te de Montois-la-Montagne.
Yellow jersey Demi Vollering was one of the riders who hit the deck with 6 kilometres to go. It took her a minute to remount her bike.
Meanwhile, the race charged on as Adegeest attacked from the breakaway. With 2.7 kilometres to go, she was caught by a group including Blanka Vas, Kasia Niewiadoma, Chloé Dygert, Lucinda Brand, Cédrine Kerbaol, Kristen Faulkner, Liane Lippert, and Emma Norsgaard.
Faulkner accelerated just after the flamme rouge. Norsgaard also tried to go clear, but it was in vain. Lippert was the first to gain a gap by launching her sprint early, yet she was overtaken on the uphill finish, first by Niewiadoma and then by Vas. The Hungarian rider took the stage win, while the Polish rider claimed the yellow jersey.
Vollering crossed the line with a 1.47 minutes deficit and dropped to ninth place in the general classification.
