Course Preview
The 2nd stage of the Tour de France Femmes is short and flat. At 67 kilometres, the women race from Dordrecht to Rotterdam. It's the first of two stages in one day since the riders take on an ITT in the afternoon.
Cyclocross champion Lucinda Brand was born and raised in Dordrecht, the oldest city in the western part of the Netherlands. It’s situated on the Island of Dordt, which is bordered by five rivers. Beautiful camera shots are to be expected, all the more since the Biesbosch is nearby, an extensive area of freshwater tidal wetlands, in fact, one of the largest in Northwestern Europe.
Moreover, after 15 kilometres, the riders pass the famous Kinderdijk windmills in the Alblasserwaard polder. This constellation of nineteen old windmills is one of the best-known Dutch tourist sites. The riders then continue to Alblasserdam, Ridderkerk and Rhoon, a village bordering the southern side of the city of Rotterdam.
So, the riders penetrate Rotterdam from the south, passing De Kuip—the home stadium of 16-time Dutch football champion Feyenoord—and reaching the home straight via the Willemsbrug and Maasboulevard. The finish is situated at the Boompjes, at the base of the Erasmus Bridge.
