The final stage of the 2024 Tirreno-Adriatico has come to a close in San Benedetto del Tronto, and with it the race has found its overall champion. The traditional closing time trial along the Adriatic coast served as the decisive battleground for the general classification, and it delivered a thrilling conclusion to what has been a memorable week of racing.
Primoz Roglic put in a dominant performance in the closing test against the clock, showing the kind of power and precision that has made him one of the most feared time trialists in the peloton. The Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe rider was imperious on the flat coastal roads, producing a blistering effort that was simply too good for his rivals to match.
Tadej Pogacar, who had been a major force throughout the week, was unable to wrest the overall lead from Roglic in the final reckoning. The UAE Team Emirates rider had shown flashes of brilliance during the stage race but ultimately had to concede the overall victory to his fellow Slovenian.
Roglic crossed the finish line and knew almost immediately that he had done enough. The celebrations that followed spoke to the significance of the victory, with Roglic claiming another prestigious title to add to his already impressive palmarès. It was a commanding display from a rider who continues to prove that he remains at the very top of the sport, and a fitting end to a high-quality edition of the Italian stage race.
