Race Recap
The peloton rolled into Torino di Sangro after another exciting day of racing at Tirreno-Adriatico, and it was Tadej Pogacar who once again demonstrated why he is the dominant force in the peloton right now. The Slovenian superstar crossed the line in brilliant fashion to claim the stage victory, further cementing his grip on the race overall.
The stage was not without its typical early drama, as a breakaway group managed to get clear of the peloton in the opening kilometers. The escapees worked well together and built a reasonable advantage, giving themselves hope of staying away to contest the finish. However, the teams of the general classification contenders were never going to allow too much rope, and the gap was managed carefully throughout the day.
As the race moved into the closing kilometers, it became clear that the breakaway's fate was sealed. The peloton reeled them in with practiced efficiency, and attention turned to what would happen in the finale. The finish presented enough of a challenge to suit a punchy and powerful rider, and Pogacar rose to the occasion in the way only he can.
Launching his effort at precisely the right moment, Pogacar powered clear of his rivals and crossed the line with his arms aloft. His UAE Team Emirates squad had done excellent work in setting him up for the finish. Behind him, other favorites tried to respond but could not match the Slovenian's sheer speed and strength. The result means Pogacar is in a very commanding position heading deeper into this race.
