Course Preview

At 198 kilometres, the riders travel from Camaiore to Follonica in the Tirreno-Adriatico's 2nd stage. Running parallel to the Tyrrhenian Sea in southerly direction, the route is the spitting image of last year's 2nd stage.

Back then, the race came down to a sprint finish. Fernando Gaviria jumped early and was overhauled by Fabio Jakobsen and Jasper Philipsen. The Dutchman took the win ahead of Philipsen, while Gaviria finished in third place.

A similar outcome is to be expected, as the route is easy to control. Yes, there are intermediate climbs, but since these are less than 5 kilometres long and the gradients never exceed 5% no sprinter will be worried. The race concludes with a local lap of 18.1 kilometres long.

Follonica also hosted a Tirreno-Adriatico stage finish in 2018. That race came down to a bunch sprint as well with Marcel Kittel outpowering Peter Sagan and Giacomo Nizzolo.

The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint comes with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
