UAE Team Emirates Crush Team Time Trial

UAE Team Emirates won the 26.9 team time trial today Auxerre by 15 seconds ahead of Jayco AlUla to put American Brandon McNulty into the yellow jersey.

"For sure we have a good team but I wasn’t expecting to be in the jersey at all so it’s special," McNulty said. "It was a hard day with a heavy start on typically French roads with lot of ups and downs and not very fast but when we came into town it was really fast so we never had any recovery time. It was really tough but we rode perfectly. We would have loved to have one or two more riders in the fast section but five was enough so that was good. We have Joao as our main leader and quite a few good climbers. I don’t know how good I am because I was a bit sick after the UAE Tour. We’ll see tomorrow.”

UAE Team Emirates crossed the line with a time of 31 minutes and 23 seconds, ahead of Jayco AlUla. EF-Easypost was 20 seconds adrift.

“We knew it would be a tough day with strong teams and TT specialists like UAE," said Laurence Pithie, who swapped the yellow and blue jersey for the green jersey after his team's performance. "I knew it would be hard to stay in yellow. But to stay in green is great. It turned out to be a disadvantage to be one of the last teams to go. The rain was falling pretty hard and it was pretty slippery coming into town so we had to be very careful in the last corners. It’s going to be a good goal to go for the intermediate sprints, knowing that there will also be quite a few GC guys going for the bonus seconds. But I will try to hold to the jersey as long as possible.” \n
